2017-2018 Simkins Lecture The Simkins Lecture Series is the oldest and most prestigious speaker series at Longwood University. Named in honor of Francis Butler Simkins, who taught at Longwood from 1928 through his death in 1966, the purpose of the series is to bring prominent scholars to campus for the benefit of the Longwood and Farmville communities.

Join our Longwood LIFE participants as they perform in the Small Theatre with puppets they've created throughout their 10-week program. The stories they share will express self-advocacy for individuals with disabilities and diversity, which are their own. The students will have their portfolios on display in the lobby before the puppet show. From 7:00pm-8:00pm, the performance will be in the theatre. The Richmond Symphony will take the stage in Jarman Auditorium to perform its inspirational New World Symphony concert on Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will include pieces by Kaprálová, Brahms and Dvořák, and will feature soloists Daisuke Yamamoto on violin and Neal Cary on cello.
