Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know if my FAFSA is selected for Verification?

You can review the "comment section" on your FAFSA, or you can view your Longwood financial aid requirements.

What is verification?

The Office of Financial Aid will require the student and parent to verify the information contained on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before any financial aid can be awarded and or disbursed. This process is mandatory by the Department of Education. Longwood allows you 30 days to submit all required documentation.

Why was my FAFSA selected?

FAFSA are selected for several different reasons:

  • Your FAFSA was selected randomly
  • Your FAFSA was incomplete
  • You made a change to your current FAFSA
  • You completed your FAFSA using an estimate and did not update it after filing taxes
  • You were eligible to use the IRS data retrieval tool but chose not to use it

What documents do I need to submit?

  • A Verification Worksheet
  • Federal Tax Return Transcript (this is different from your federal tax return)
  • (In some cases, W2s may be required)

You will have 30 days to submit the required documents. All federal, state and university aid will be cancelled if you do not submit the required documents. You will be responsible for all charges.

Per Federal guidelines, we cannot accept federal tax returns. Your tax return transcript will be available approximately three weeks after your tax return is filed.
