Lancer Net Id Change Reminder

As communicated previously, the format of the student LancerNet ID will change over Fall Break. The new format will be the student's last name followed by their first and middle initials. For example, the new LancerNet ID for Jane Ann Smith will be smithja. NOTE: The new student format mirrors the current faculty/staff format. Students with names that are duplicated in the system will have their ID appended with a number. For example in the event that there are two users with the last name smith and the first and middle initials ja - the ID would be smithja2. Those students affected by this will be notified individually via their Longwood email account.

Students use the LancerNet ID to access Blackboard, myLongwood, library databases, lab and library computers, computer registration, student web shares, etc.

Please note that this change will not affect the student email account in any way.

Student customizations (such as custom channels) in the myLongwood portal will need to be recreated after the ID change.

Web addresses for student websites and portfolios contain the LancerNet ID. These web addresses will change to reflect the new ID on October 12th. Students will need to update links to their webpages/portfolios.

Important - Sytem Downtime Information:

Blackboard and the myLongwood portal will be unavailable from 8 AM on Monday, October 12th until 5 PM on Tuesday, October 13th due to the ID change. Please note that this change/downtime was scheduled during fall break to minimize inconvenience.

Complete information regarding the ID change can be found at: http://www.longwood.edu/helpdesk/student_lancernetchange.htm

If you have questions please contact User Support Services at 4357 or 877-267-7883 (toll free) or email helpdesk@longwood.edu.

New Graduate Policies Effective Fall 2009

Beginning with the fall 2009 semester, several new policies take effect that apply to all currently enrolled (Retroactive to Fall 2004 - 2004/2005 Graduate Catalog) graduate degree and licensure students. This information is being provided to you via regular mail, via e-mail, via Blackboard, and via the Graduate Studies website in the News & Notes section. Questions may be directed to your Program Coordinator or the Graduate & Extended Studies Office.

Continuous Enrollment:

All students enrolled in graduate degree and licensure programs must enroll each regular semester for a minimum of one graduate credit hour. This registration must continue with no breaks from admittance to graduation. This policy does not include summer sessions. Students must be enrolled in the semester they are scheduled to graduate.

In any regular semester that a student is not enrolled in a program requirement they must enroll in GRAD 698. Continuous Enrollment. This course does not count toward degree requirements. Registration must take place during the registration periods as published in the University calendar.

GRAD 698. Continuous Enrollment. Enrollment required in any regular semester in which a student is not registered for a program requirement; course is an audit grade. Tuition for this course is $50.00. 1 credit.

Students who take an unapproved break in registration by failing to maintain continuous enrollment will relinquish their graduate standing in the university. Students who wish to be reinstated will be required to file an Application for Graduate Readmission and pay the application fee. Reinstatement is not automatic in such instances and will depend on a full review by the applicable Program Coordinator of the student's past record upon receipt of the Application for Graduate Readmission. (Applications available from the Office of Graduate & Extended Studies.)

Leave Of Absence:

Students wishing to be excused from the continuous enrollment requirement because of extenuating circumstances may request a leave of absence from the Dean of Graduate and Extended Studies by submitting a written request. THE STUDENT'S REQUEST MUST BE APPROVED BY THE RESPECTIVE GRADUATE PROGRAM COORDINATOR prior to submission to the Dean of Graduate and Extended Studies. Requests must be received and approved prior to the first day of on-campus classes in the fall or spring as published in the University calendar.

Except for extenuating circumstances requiring approval from the Dean of Graduate and Extended Studies, time spent in leave of absence status will be included in all time limits pertaining to the student's degree program. Students on a leave of absence are not entitled to use any university facilities, make demands upon faculty time, or receive an assistantship or financial aid.

Incomplete Policy:

The grade of "I" indicates that because of illness or for other good reason the work of the semester has not been completed. An "I" becomes an "F" unless the work is completed and the instructor assigns a course grade by the last day of classes of the subsequent regular semester as published in the University calendar (i.e., an incomplete awarded in the fall semester must be removed by the last day of classes in the spring, and an incomplete awarded in the spring or summer semesters must be removed by the last day of classes in the fall). The awarding of a grade of "I" requires an understanding between the instructor and student as to when and how the course will be completed. An extension of the time limit is possible, but must be approved, prior to the expiration date stated above, by the instructor and the Dean of Graduate & Extended Studies. A graduate student with six or more hours of incompletes will not be allowed to enroll in any additional graduate courses. To take effect summer 2009 and apply to all currently enrolled graduate students.

Internship/Clinical Experience/Practicum Policy:

Courses:

All internship/clinical experience/practicum courses may be offered for variable credit. All graduate students while engaged in a field experience must be registered for a minimum of one credit hour in their program course requirement. Courses affected: ACCT 693, COUN 638 (previously EDUC 638), CSDS 580, CSDS 680, CSDS 685, EDSL 690, EDUC 690, MANG 693, MARK 693, PSYC 650, SOCL 522, SPED 580, SPED 690.

Grading:

Internship/clinical experience/practicum courses may be graded on a pass (P) / not pass (NP) option according to program requirements and, if so, will not be used in calculating the grade point average. A grade of incomplete (I) may be assigned at the discretion of the instructor only if all field hours have been successfully completed. To take effect summer 2009 and apply to all currently enrolled graduate students.

Thesis/Collaborative-Teacher Research Policy:

Courses:

All thesis and collaborative-teacher research courses may be offered for variable credit. The minimum number of hours required per option is established by each program, but there is no limit to the number of credits a student may earn in these courses while pursuing completion of the degree. Courses affected: CSDS 600, ENGL 600, MUSC 690, MUSC 691, SOCL 600, SPED 600, SPED 601.

Grading:

All thesis and collaborative-teacher research courses are to be graded on a pass (P) / not pass (NP) option and will not be used in calculating the grade point average. A grade of incomplete (I) may not be assigned in thesis and collaborative-teacher research. Students must remain continuously enrolled in at least one credit hour until completion. To take effect summer 2009 and apply to all currently enrolled graduate students.
