What You Can Find In The Library Books: 267,966 volumes Journals and Magazines (Periodicals): Over 2,100 print subscriptions and access to over 11,000 via the Internet. Periodicals located in the Library to not circulate. Online databases - approximately 150, accessible to Longwood faculty, staff, and students on and off campus. Virginia Documents: State Depository Library Micromedia: 679,788 items on microfiche and microfilm. Readers and printers are available. Audio-Visual Materials: 38,395 Sound recordings and videos may be checked out by students, faculty and staff only, and circulation policies vary. Computer Software: 463 Newspapers: Local, national, and international titles. Newspapers do not circulate. Reference Collection: Encyclopedia, dictionaries, atlases, indexes, and CD-ROM and Internet workstations. Special Collections: Includes Longwood history, these, and campus archives. In person: View Library hours at this link - www.longwood.edu/library/about/hours.htm Services Provided Audio/Visual Rooms: Listening and viewing facilities are available for students to use the Library's audio-visual collection. Circulation/Reserves: All materials must be checked out with a Longwood ID or community user card. Books circulate for 30 days to undergraduate and staff members, 90 days to graduate students and faculty, and 21 days to community members. materials may be renewed in person or by phone. Fines: The Library charges fines through all vacations and stops fines only when the user returns the item(s) or reports materials lost. Unpaid fines are reported to the Longwood Business Office. A courtesy notice will be sent when books are not returned by the date due. Fines for overdue books are not refundable. After one hundred (100) days, a book is automatically considered lost and a bill for its replacement will be issued to the borrower. Collection Development: Longwood community members are encouraged to survey the collection and make recommendations to the Library; however, faculty requests are given the highest priority. Interlibrary Loan: Provides access to materials available at other libraries for Longwood students, faculty and staff. Library Instruction: Librarians work closely with teaching faculty to provide course-integrated research instruction which introduces students to information resources and strengthens their research skills. Lost and Found: Located at the Circulation/Reserve and Reference desks. New Books: A display for casual browsing is located in the Atrium. Photocopying: Photocopiers and microfilm/fiche readers with printers are available for patron use. Copies are 5 cents each with a copy card and 10 cents each with cash. A change machine and copy card dispenser are located on the main floor. Patrons are expected to observe copyright laws. Reference Services: Librarians are faculty members who are professionally trained to assist patrons with their research. Librarians are available during most library hours. Reserves: Reserve items are located at the Circulation/Reserve Desk. Most items are available for only two hours, although some may be checked out for one to three days. Fees for overdue reserve items vary. Student Study Rooms: Students may use the individual study rooms on the second floor or the group study rooms on the first floor. Suggestions: Comments and questions may be submitted electronically from the Library's web page or dropped in the suggestion box located on the main floor of the library.
