PLEASE NOTE THAT REGISTRATION DEADLINES, AND ADD/DROP/WITHDRAWAL POLICIES VARY
WITH THE TYPE AND LOCATION OF THE COURSE.

Add/Drop/Withdrawal

Students are responsible for knowing University policies and procedures which are explained in the Graduate Catalog, available online at any time.

All On-Campus add/drop/withdrawal deadlines and policies are available each semester/term at the Registration Office web site or in the Graduate Catalog. On-Campus courses have a publicized add-drop period at the beginning of each term during which courses may be added or dropped without penalty. There are NO automatic drops for non-attendance. After the add-drop period, withdrawal is the only option to exit a course and there are no refunds of tuition & fees. Payment is due when a course is added.

Off-Campus add/drop/withdrawal deadlines and policies are available on the Graduate Studies web site or in the Graduate Catalog. Remember, off-campus classes must be dropped by the Start Date in order to avoid paying tuition and fees. There are NO automatic drops for non-attendance. After the start date, withdrawal is the only exit option and there is no refund of tuition or fees.

All Online add/drop/withdrawal deadlines and policies are available at the Online@Longwood web site. Remember, online classes must be dropped by the Start Date in order to avoid paying tuition and fees. There are NO automatic drops for non-attendance or not signing into the course. After the start date, withdrawal is the only exit option and there is no refund of tuition or fees.

To withdraw by the 35th day of class for on-campus or before the mid-point of the class for off-campus, online, intersession or summer classes, send a written request to the Registration Office by mail or fax (434.395.2252) or email After the mid-point of the term, withdrawal may only be for non-academic reasons and requires a written request to the Dean of Graduate & Extended Studies. There is no refund of tuition or fees for withdrawals.

Financial Reminders

All account balances must be paid, in full, and/or “secured” by financial aid or third party payers on, or before, the semester payment due date. After the payment due date, unpaid/unsecured balances will be subject to cancellation and the course schedule subject to cancellation.

WARNING: A course MUST be dropped through (1)  myLongwood or (2) by notifying the Registration Office in writing via email or the U.S. Mail by the Start Date of an off-campus or online course or by the end of the add/drop period for on-campus classes. Not attending a class or not signing into an online course does NOT constitute dropping a course. The student is responsible for actively dropping the course following one of these two procedures by the required date or tuition and fees will be charged and no refunds provided.

Tuition and Fees vary by the term (Fall, Spring, Summer or Winter Intersession), the level of the class (undergraduate or graduate), the class location (on-campus, off-campus or online) and by residency status (in-state or out-of-state). Click here to see current tuition and fees per credit hour. (Remember to multiply this amount by the number of credit hours.)

ALL STUDENTS access their billing account through myLongwood.  No paper bills are mailed. All billing is through Longwood email and the myLongwood portal. Payment methods of Visa, Mastercard or ACH drafts are available through the myLongwood Student tab at "My Student Accounts".  Students may elect to designate "authorized users" to access their student account.  Authorized users will be  emailed the procedures for accessing the student account. For more detailed information about student accounts click here.

Non-degree seeking, non-admitted or special students who have enrolled at Longwood within the past year may access the myLongwood portal to see and pay bills using a Visa or Mastercard, if desired.

First time Longwood students who are non-degree seeking, non-admitted or special students must wait to pay online using a credit card until the Longwood ID, username and temporary password is received via the U.S. Mail. About 24 hours after the Longwood Registration Form is received in the Registration Office, the Helpdesk will provide the student identification information to callers only (434.395.4357 or toll free 877.267.7883). This information cannot be sent via email for security reasons. A check can be mailed immediately upon registration.

Students who have third party payers (such as employers) must get the third party payer certified as a provider by the Student Accounts Office. Contact Students Accounts for detailed information and assistance. Prior to the semester billing date, a student must provide Longwood University’s Student Accounts Office with an official Authorization for Tuition Assistance letter or form. Authorizations for tuition assistance should be submitted at the time of registration to avoid the possible assessment of late payment fees. (Mailing address:  Office of Student Accounts, Longwood University, 201 High Street, Farmville, VA 23909)  Please note: An Authorization for Tuition Assistance is a signed letter or form granting Longwood University permission to bill the student’s employer directly. Longwood University will give credit for employer authorized tuition assistance only if the employer guarantees payment directly to Longwood University.  If the employer provides tuition assistance only upon satisfactory completion of the course, the student must pay all charges by the billing date or at the time of registration whichever comes first.
