New Student Orientation

Welcome to Longwood University Graduate Studies!

We are so pleased that you selected us to pursue your advanced studies. We hope you find the information on this web site helpful and informative.

You will find the Longwood web site, www.longwood.edu, to be a great source of information. The Public Relations office publishes a weekly bulletin and monthly reports. The Bulletin is a weekly listing of coming attractions, deadlines, special events, sports, and general information for students. On Campus is a monthly report of on campus news, special events, and other activities of interest to both the university and community. Faculty News is a monthly showcase of faculty accomplishments, research, awards, and special events. The Longwood Calendar lists events, etc., for the whole month on a daily basis. All of these items are found on the Longwood home page under "News and Events" or by typing www.longwood.edu/news. For all students registered for classes and all admitted degree-seeking students, the myLongwood portal is the best place to find the information you need, registration, financial aid, billing status, hold flags, grades, class schedules, etc.

Technology at Longwood University is an integral and important part of the learning process. Over 85% of our faculty require their students to use computers outside of class and 66% are requiring the use of the Internet as a research tool. In addition to their regular class and office hours, all professors are available via Electronic mail (e-mail) and Voice Mail. The University has contracted with Dell Computer Corporation, the leading direct computer sales company in the country, to offer laptop computers to Longwood students at substantial savings over retail prices. Additionally, fifteen new, fully-equipped electronic classrooms are on campus along with nine computer labs - one of which is a high-end graphics laboratory equipped with the latest in computer technology including scanners, video digitizers and color printers. You may also access additional information on the web site at www.longwood.edu/helpdesk/.

A Longwood University ID is required for use of all facilities including the computer labs, the Library, the Learning Center, and Disability Services. The Campus Police in conjunction with Aramark Dining Services provides the university ID’s. The Campus ID Office provides ID's during regular business hours, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The office is located on the ground floor, room G22A, of Lancaster Hall and can be reached by telephone at 434.395.2715 for you to make special arrangements for after hours service or visit their web site at www.longwood.edu/police, select "Card Center" from their menu.

Campus Security: Two reports, by Virginia Commonwealth University and the FBI, ranked Longwood as one of the safest campuses in Virginia. An annually produced Campus Security Report is available at www.longwood.edu/police/ It contains campus crime statistics as well as university policies and procedures. A printed copy is available upon request.
