Chichester Science Center

One of our newest buildings, The Chichester Science Center, employs several techniques to create an environmentally-friendly and efficient building. All of the laboratories have been built as self-contained units, which means that the floors are leak-proof and the labs maintain a negative pressure in relation to the outside. This ensures that, should there be a chemical accident in one of the labs, the fumes would be contained in their area of origin. All of the other rooms in the center maintain a positive pressure so as to keep un-air-conditioned air from entering, which decreases energy costs. Another feature in the building is an acid waste neutralizer system. All of the acid waste from the laboratories is collected in a 500 gallon acid dilution basin containing limestone. The waste reacts with the limestone in the basin so that the acid is neutralized, and therefore made safe to dispose of in the sanitary sewer system. This decreases the pollution that goes into the sewer system.
