About GreenCampus @ Longwood
Longwood's GreenCampus efforts are focused on making our campus more environmentally sustainable. Longwood University's values:
History of GreenCampus In February 2006, the President of Longwood University, Dr. Patricia Cormier, established the Longwood University Committee for a Sustainable Environment.
"In a world of increasing demands and diminishing resources, it is
imperative that we, the academic community, do our part to ensure
that future generations have opportunities equal to those afforded us.
Regardless of the positive strides already taken, it is time
for Longwood University to develop its own guidelines for environmental
sustainability. To this end, I am establishing a standing
committee of the University, henceforth to be known as the Longwood University
Committee for a Sustainable Environment. This

What is Sustainability? According to the Brundtland Report, sustainability is "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Who we are
The Longwood University Committee for a Sustainable Environment (GreenCampus)
is made up of students, faculty, and staff members who
are committed to and are knowledgeable about environmental sustainability.
We meet monthly as a committee to discuss actions our
community can take to improve our environment, and decrease our ecological
footprint. Sub-committees meet more frequently as they focus on
specific projects. |
