If you ever doubt the ability of one person to start something big, look no further than Longwood alumna Kathleen Manning Holroyd ’96. Her desire to teach her children the true meaning of the holidays has resulted in an event known as The Big Give that has touched the lives of hundreds of people since it began in 2012.
Holroyd’s event in Northern Virginia has inspired several other Longwood alums to create “Big Gives” of their own in New York and several other locations in Virginia. The day of giving typically includes activities such as fulfilling entire families’ Christmas wish lists, visiting Alzheimer’s patients, and dropping off goodies at police and fire stations.
