Sexual Misconduct Policy and Definition

Longwood University “Will not tolerate rape and/or sexual assault in any form, whether by a stranger or by an acquaintance, whether against females or males.  This is a crime as well as a violation of Longwood’s Code of Conduct Standards and Regulations.” (Student Handbook). Sexual misconduct is any sexual activity undertaken without consent. The following policy definitions apply:

Definition

Sexual Misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

(1) Unwelcome sexual propositions, invitations, or other pressure for sex.

(2) Unwelcome touching - either of the victim or when the victim is forced to touch another person's body, directly or through clothing

(3) Coerced sexual intercourse (e.g., rape, attempted rape, sodomy, or other sexual acts or misconduct), or when the victim is incapable of consent by reason of age, mental incapacity  (including unwitting consumption of drugs), or physical helplessness.

This group will assist our students if they feel that they have been sexually assaulted and need to talk.  They also provide advocacy for students who have been sexually assaulted.

  • SAFE - Students Advocating for a Fearless Environment, is a student organization that works within the Longwood community to educate the community about sexual assault issues. For more information regarding programs, or to become actively involved in SAFE, please contact 434.395.2103.

  • RAD - Rape Agression Defense Training - RAD training is a 12-hour class offered by the University Police. This nationally recognized program teaches women how to avoid potentially dangerous situations and how to use defensive measures to escape from them if they cannot be avoided.

  • Night Walkers - Night Walkers provides a safe escort for students traveling alone after dark. An escort can be obtained by calling 434.395.2091 or pick up an emergency phone on campus.
