Faculty/Staff Cisco VPN Client
Cisco's Virtual Private Network (VPN) software offers the convenience of remote access (off-campus and via wireless) to administrative resources such as Banner INB and network shares. Longwood faculty and staff may have the Cisco VPN installed on University-owned computers. The installation of this software is not permitted on personally owned computers. To place a work order to have the VPN client installed please contact User Support Services at (434) 395-4357.
Please note:
You must have an active connection
to the Internet to use the VPN client. You will only need to use the Cisco VPN client to access administrative
resources that are not publicly accessible such as Banner INB and network shares.
You DO NOT need the Cisco VPN client to surf the Internet or check e-mail. You
will experience decreased speed while connected to the VPN.
A computer using a satellite connection is often given a private dynamic IP address which is not always compatible with VPN servcies. Users can request a publicly routable static IP from the satellite provider; however, there may be an additional charge for this service.
More information and the associated VPN and wireless policy links can be found at the Information Security website at www.longwood.edu/infosec/vpn/wirelessvpn.html.
