Office 2008 Information (MAC)

File formats for Office 2008 have changed, so be prepared to handle compatibility issues during the period of time when both Office 2004 and Office 2008 are in use on campus. Please note that some Longwood faculty members are currently using Office 2004 and that special steps must be taken to ensure that Office 2004 users can open a file created in Office 2008. Office 2004 users will need to download the Open Office XML Converter available at this link:

You may also consider saving your documents as “Word 97-2004 Format” for maximum compatibility.

To run Microsoft® Office 2008 for Mac, your computer must meet the following requirements:

  • Processor: A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (500 MHz or faster)
    processor
  • Operating System: Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or later
  • Memory: 512 MB of RAM or more
  • 1.5 GB of available hard disk space
  • Hard Disk: HFS+ hard disk format (also known as Mac OS Extended or HFS Plus)
  • Drives: DVD drive or connection to a local area network (if installing over a network)
  • Display: 1024 x 768 or higher-resolution monitor
  • Entourage and certain features require Internet access (fees may apply)
