General information
This exciting technology provides the Longwood community with cutting edge technology, mobility, and convenience. Wireless technology will allow faculty, staff, and students with a laptop computer to connect to the Internet without attaching a cable to a network port as they would in their room or office. Users of the wireless network have the ability to surf the Internet and send and receive email from locations like the patio of the Student Union, the lounge in the Library, and even the fountain at Brock Commons!
Wireless networking is the use of radio frequency signals to connect portable workstations, such as laptops, to the network. Since the wireless technology runs off of signals, there will be things that will interfere with wireless communications, such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, electronic motors, and other wireless devices.
The wireless network is supported, maintained, and protected by Longwood University for use by its faculty, staff, students, and any other individuals as authorized by the University. Use of the wireless network is for internet access only and not a substitution for a wired connection to the Longwood domain. Unauthorized access and use is strictly prohibited.
