Scholarships Available Through Longwood

All honors students who study abroad are eligible for scholarships through the Cormier Honors College.  Visit the Honors Office for applications and deadlines.

All students who study abroad for at least a semester may apply for a $1,000 Study Abroad Scholarship. 
Deadline: Oct. 1 for spring study abroad; Feb. 1 for fall.

All students who study abroad for a half semester (student teachers) or for summer sessions in individual programs of at least 4 weeks may apply for a $500 Study Abroad Scholarship. 
Deadline: Oct. 1 for spring study abroad; Feb. 1 for fall.

Students who participate in short-term study abroad programs (2 to 4 weeks) may apply for a $500 Short-Term Study Abroad Scholarships. 
Deadline: Oct. 1 for spring study abroad; Feb. 1 for summer; March 1 for fall.

Modern Language Presidential Scholarships: There are five available $2,000 scholarships for semester study abroad programs. These are reserved for Modern Language Majors. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must submit a 300-word essay in English as a part of the application process. Deadline: May 1 for fall or spring of next academic year.


Scholarships Available Through External Sources

Gilman Scholarships - The Gilman Scholarship provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. undergraduate students at two- and four-year institutions to pursue country-based undergraduate opportunities abroad of up to one academic year. To be eligible, students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application and cannot be studying abroad in a country currently under a US State Department Travel Warning or in Cuba. Deadline: September of each year for spring scholarships.

BUTEX North American Scholarships - This scholarship is open to all undergraduate students who have been offered a place as a study abroad or exchange student in a UK university which is a member of BUTEX (British Transatlantic Exchange Association). Each scholarship winner will receive $1,000.  Deadline: August 1

Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society - Thirty-eight $1,000 study abroad scholarships are awarded each year. Students must have a minimum of 56 credit hours, but no more than 90 by the deadline. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is not necessary. A GPA of 3.5 is required and students must have at least two remaining semesters at home upon return. Deadline: April 1, 2011 for the 2011-2012 academic year
