Current Students

Program Requirements

To participate in the Honors program and graduate “cum honore,” students must successfully complete eight honors courses, three of which must be at the 300-level or above. To remain in the Longwood Honors Program students must retain a 3.25 GPA in all Honors courses and an overall GPA of 3.25. The GPA is computed at the end of each academic year. Please note that even if the required 3.25 GPA is attained in both Honors and other courses, students will be permanently dropped from the Honors Program if they fail to complete Honors courses for two consecutive semesters.  Students should also remember that most professional semesters will occupy one academic semester in which Honors courses cannot be taken. Other options include completing an enhancement or honors research project like the one here. All Honors students must take the following courses:  Honors Longwood Seminar 100 or Honors 202 (Foundations of Citizen Leadership) and an Honors section of English 400 (Active Citizenship: An Advanced Writing Seminar).

Presenting Papers at Honors Conferences

In the 2004-05 academic year, twenty-one Longwood honors students presented their research at regional and national conferences. Six students attended the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference in New Orleans in November of 2004:  Brad Tuggle was chosen to participate in the drama master class, while Heather Pink and Rebekah Fisher performed in the music master class; Alecia Mullins spoke on the Longwood Honors orientation, held for incoming freshmen each August; and Kaitlin Aardahl and Margie Campbell presented their research on the integration of Virginia public schools.  Honors students regularly present research at other student research venues, such as the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, the Southern Regional Honors Conference, and the Virginias Collegiate Honors Conference.

Students interested in presenting papers at future conferences should save their Honors projects and watch for a "call for papers" on this website under honors news and under conferences.
