Incoming students are offered admission to the Honors Program based on a review of their high school records, including an unweighted average of their core academic courses; a profile of college-credit courses, especially through AP and IB; and SAT or ACT scores. Successful Honors applicants for the class of 2009 had median SATs in the high-1200s and a median unweighted GPA of over 3.8.

Prospective Students - Eligibility

Students who pass the initial screening will be asked to submit a brief essay explaining why they want to participate in Honors. Successful applicants from the class of 2012 will then be invited to join the Honors Program.  Completion of a three day honors retreat will be done at the beginning of the fall semester.  This retreat (run by the upperclassmen honors students) serves as an introduction to the honors program for the new students.

Transferring students from the Virginia Community College system and from senior institutions with recognized Honors Programs may normally apply completed Honors courses from their previous institutions toward Longwood's Honors Program requirements.
