Honors Scholarships Every academic year the Honors Program awards two to three Cormier Citizen Scholarships to incoming first-year students planning careers in public service, and six Hull Education Scholarships to first-year students preparing for careers in teaching. The Cormier Citizen Scholarships, with an annual stipend of $5,500, and the Hull Scholarships, with an annual stipend of $5,000, are renewable annually. While current minimums for the Cormier Scholars and Hull Scholars are SAT totals (math and critical reading) of 1250 and 1200, respectively, and an unweighted high school grade point average of 3.5 for academic core courses, successful applicants in recent years have consistently presented stronger credentials. In addition, three Longwood Scholar stipends, worth from $2200 to $5200 annually, are awarded to incoming freshmen in any major field presenting superior high school records and showing evidence of curricular and extra-curricular leadership. Finally, two Advanced Honors Program scholarships are offered every year in the amount of $4000, one to a rising junior and one to a rising senior. The above scholarships are the highest merit-based awards offered at the University. To retain an honors-sponsored scholarship, students must remain in good standing with the Honors Program. Applications and further information may be obtained from Dr. Geoffrey Orth, Honors Program Director. Click here to find out more about Dr. Orth and the other honors office employees. |
