Our Core Values

Longwood University acknowledges and values the dimensions of diversity in our academic community. We hear out and consider different perspectives in our daily decision-making. We communicate different ways to reach out to, and listen to all members of the Longwood community on issues of importance. We champion the perspectives of each individual for the benefit of all. We treat each other with dignity and caring, and we respect the rights of others and remain civil, even in times of disagreement.

In asking all members of the Longwood community to embrace our central mission of a meaningful learning environment, we understand that students are not educated in isolation, nor can our work be successfully carried out in isolation. A prerequisite for a diverse and inclusive environment to exist is the insistence upon honorable behavior from all members of our community. Trust, tolerance and openness pervade a community grounded in honor, and are reflected in all interactions with others and in all transactions affecting others. Each and every one of us, by our minds and our hands, on a foundation of hope and character, build for all.
