Longwood University. All criteria listed
above apply to transfer students with the
exception that the Student Evaluation
checklist may be completed for only one
course dependent on the student's schedule
during the first semester at Longwood
University.
Teacher Candidates Applying For Licensure
Only
Licensure only teacher candidates apply
for admission to the Physical and Health
Education Teacher Education Program (PHETE)
and must be accepted by the end of their
first semester of professional course work
at Longwood University. Students must hold
a baccalaureate degree from an accredited
institution. Students who received their
baccalaureate degree within three years
prior to making application to the PHETE
Program must meet criteria 1 and 3. Two
letters of recommendation from a licensed
teacher or school administrator or from a
previous college level instructor are also
required of any Licensure Only student.
Standardized Testing/PRAXIS I Information
To apply to the Teacher
Education Program, you must have met
standardized testing requirements. For
most students, that will involve the
successful completion of the PRAXIS I Exam
(see below). However, if you earned 1100
on the SAT Exam with a minimum score of
530 on each of the two sections, you do
NOT need to take the PRAXIS I Exam.
Scores required for the new three section
(2400 perfect score) SAT tests have not
been determined at this time. Please
contact the Office of Professional
Services at either 395-2331 or 395-2065 if
you have questions.
PRAXIS I
We recommend that you start early
preparing for the PRAXIS I exam. Take a
practice test from one of the following
resources, and do some serious review in
areas of deficiency. You must have passed
the PRAXIS Iexam and the score must be
received at Longwood University before the
beginning of the second semester of your
sophomore year. Beginning the
second semester of the sophomore year,
methods courses are restricted to those
students who have been admitted to the
Teacher Education Program. Therefore,
failure to complete the application
process (of which passing PRAXIS I is one
aspect) will delay graduation by ONE YEAR.
If you have questions, please
call the Office of Professional Services
at either 395-2331 or 395-2065.
