Discussion Board

Under Communications, select Discussion Board.

Click on the name of the Discussion Board forum you wish to post to to enter it.

Use the Add New Thread button sample Add New Thread button to create a new posting or read a posting and use the Reply button.

After entering the Subject and Message, you can use the Browse button to go to a file on your computer for an attachment, select it, and hit OKBe sure to read the bullet points on this other document about things to check before submission of an attachment.

Submitting attached files via the Discussion Board is usually a method for posting materials for other students in the class to view.  Since a wider audience may read your files, you need to be more careful about the formats and sizes of submitted files.  Be aware that the instructor may not have the Attachment feature turned on for your discussion area.

Choose Submit to post the message.

Reading Messages

Click on the title of the message to read the contents.  Clicking on the student's name will start an e-mail to that person, which you may not wish to do.  Clicking on the + / - signs next to the messages will show / hide the message's responses.

Using the Show Optins button for forums Show Options button will give you additional tools Forum tools to display messages to select all messages at once and to Collect all messages in a forum and have them on one continuous page for easy copying,  reading, or printing.

Note: The date and time displayed with each message is not the date and time on the user’s machine, rather, it is the date and time on the Blackboard server at the time of submission.
