Distance Education

Longwood University currently has three distance education facilities on line. Each facility uses a VTEL 5000 dual processor. The room pictured to the left, Hull 128, has a dedicated T-1 link and is often used to teach students at the Continuing Education Center in South Boston, VA, 65 miles south of the Farmville campus.

Hiner 201 is one of our two newest distance education facilities. 201 seats 40 students and has a VTEL 5000 dual processor. The facility is used to send audio, video, and data to various sites around the Commonwealth of Virginia. Currently this room is used by the Business program, the Honors program, and the Sociology program to send out courses at a distance, or bring in courses not currently offered on our campus.

Hiner 213 is our newest distance education facility. It is also used by our graduate programs as well as our business program, and graduate sociology program. Like Hiner 201, Hiner 213 has a dual processor VTEL 5000 unit. Both Hiner 201 and 213 are on our ATM switch connected directly to the Internet via our DS-3 pipe.
