Administrative Rights FAQs
What are administrative rights used for?
Administrative rights are used to install or remove hardware and software, as well as for making system setting changes.
What will I not be able to do without administrative rights?
Without administrative rights you will not be able to install registry changing software, or run active x controls. You also will not be able to install certain hardware, like local printers. Not having administrative rights will also limit your ability to browse directories and change system settings, like the date and time.
Will my existing software still work?
In most cases, all of the software on your computer will still work without administrative rights. There are a few packages that may require administrative rights and we will address those as they come up.
What if I find out that I need administrative rights to do my job effectively?
You can obtain administrative rights by following the established procedure.
If I do not have administrative rights, how will I make system changes or install hardware and software?
If you need something installed, or to make a system change, contact User Support Services at extension 4357. They will contact a technician, who can remotely connect to your computer and perform the install for you. Depending upon what is being installed, you may not need to physically be at your computer.
