I'm getting pop-ups about secure and non-secure items. How can I stop that?

Warning:  Any adjustments to security settings of your web browser may create vulnerabilities that the security settings were meant to protect against.

The pop-ups are a result of our efforts to make sure your ID and password stay secure.  Blackboard displays a mix of secured content (your ID and password) and non-secured content (images and other things like scripts).  Internet Explorer's security features recognize this and warn you about it.  The warning you get will look something like this:

Security Information pop-up window

To turn this off, go into Internet Explorer.  Go into Tools, Internet Options.  Click on the Security tab

  1. Click on the Trusted sites (the green check box)

Internet Options windowTrusted Sites window

  1. Click on the Sites button

  2. On the Add this Web site to the zone: line, type in the FULL Blackboard site web address of http://blackboard.longwood.edu.

  3. Click on Add.  The box marked Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone should remain unchecked.

  4. Click on OK.

  5. Back on the Internet Options window, while the Trusted sites zone is still selected, click on Custom Level... (make sure you don't skip the last step or you'll be editing the custom level for another zone)

7.  In the Security Settings window, scroll down to the Miscellaneous sub heading.  Beneath that sub-heading, find an option called Display mixed content, about half way down the Security Settings window.  Choose Enable.

8.  Hit the two OK prompts until the Internet Options close out.

You should not receive the mixed content warning any longer from Longwood's Blackboard site.
