Welcome to the Longwood ITS training schedule page!  Here you will be able to sign up for various FREE classes that will help you to improve your computer skills.  We have tried to give you a variety of dates to fit your busy schedule.  Please take a look at the class offerings and fill out the form below indicating which classes you would like to attend.

All classes are in 204 Lancaster unless otherwise noted.  If there is a change, you will be notified as soon as possible.

The following options are currently available:

Using FrontPage

This workshop will teach the user the user  how to create web pages with Microsoft FrontPage 2003. Participants will learn about the "web/site" concept, page formatting, posting, and common traps to avoid.  Users will also learn how to manage multiple pages and create links between those pages and other websites.   They'll also learn how to optimize images for web pages.

Using FrontPage 2

This workshop will teach the user the user  how to create web pages with Microsoft FrontPage. Participants will get "hands on" experience using advanced features of FrontPage.

Introduction to Blackboard  1

The purpose of this course is to expose faculty and staff to the features and use of Blackboard as a class supplement. Participants will learn the layout of their Blackboard classes and how to use Blackboard's many features. Included will be adding multiple file types for distribution, threaded discussion forum, and virtual chat.

Introduction to Blackboard 2

The purpose of the Blackboard 2 course is to reinforce more difficult topics that could not be covered in depth in the Blackboard 1 class. Some of the topics revisited: Adding files, quiz/survey creation (with pools), managing the grade book, managing groups, assignment feature. Also discussed tips and tricks for organizing your course.
 

Microsoft Word

The purpose of this course is to provide some instruction on basic and practical applications using Word.  
Topics covered: 
 Using the mouse for 
     Moving around the document 
     Scrolling through a document 
     Selecting and Highlighting text 
     Deleting text 
 Alignment Tab stops
 Margins 
 Spell Check 
 Bullet and Number lists 
 Tables Newspaper Style Columns 
 Inserting images or clip art Using Word Art

Microsoft PowerPoint

The purpose of this course is to provide some instruction on basic and practical applications using PowerPoint.  
 Creating a new presentation
 Opening an existing presentation
 Saving a presentation
 Adding slides
 Deleting slides
 Changing the layout of the slide
 Color schemes
 Cut, copy, paste, and duplicating objects
 Moving, aligning, and stacking objects
 Rotating and flipping objects
 Text attributes
 Adding clip art, images, and other objects
 Slide animation and transitions
 Printing a presentation
 Saving as an HTML file for a wider audience
 Zipping a presentation
Inserting Sound and Video

Microsoft Access

Students will learn the basics of Microsoft Access.  Learn about tables, adding, changing,  deleting, listing, sorting, and filtering of information.  You will also learn about forms, simple queries, and reports

Excel

Participants will be learning about Excel in general.  We will cover things like layout, sheets, and formulas.

Excel II

Participants will be learning about advanced Excel topics.  We will cover things like layout, formatting, formulas across sheets, advanced functions, importing, exporting, tracking changes, and analyzing data.

Windows Basics

Participants will learn the basics of Windows  and such things as folder management, desktop management, regular maintenance, and about protection from viruses. 

Imaging II

Participants will get to learn more about graphics and how to make them.  We will see use of a scanner, digital camera, and make some photo effects using Image Composer.

Flash MX I

You have heard about it, you have seen it, finally you can learn the basics of beginning to do it.  Topics include working with shapes,  layers, timelines, motion, and how to use them together.  Flash integrates animation, graphics, and interactivity together to create exciting web experiences.

Flash is available for use in the Coyner Multimedia Lab or the Lancaster 323 lab (reserved through Patricia Davis) for your development purposes.  We are also collecting a list of departments that would like to purchase Flash.  Contact Billy if interested.

Flash MX II

You have seen Flash. You have been to Flash I. You want to learn more.  Now is your chance.  More advanced topics related to Flash are covered.

Flash is available four use in the Coyner Multimedia Lab for your development purposes.

Flash MX III

You have seen Flash. You have been to Flash II. You want to learn more.  Now is your chance.  More advanced topics related to Flash are covered such as Masking, Button and Movie Clip Symbols.

Flash is available four use in the Coyner Multimedia Lab for your development purposes.

Digital Image Pro 9

This is a new program that comes with Office 2003.  It has many more features than Image Composer and is for editing digital Images.  This class will take the place of "Imaging I".

Digital Audio

Learn some of the ways to record, edit, and optimize digital audio using a few different programs.

Outlook for Email & Calendaring

Outlook has become the replacement for "Ontime" calendaring software on campus.  Come learn about it for your scheduling and email needs. 

Entourage

Learn about the Entourage program which is the new e-mail client for Macintosh folks.  Learn about sending and receiving e-mail, and the basics of navigating this program.  We'll cover views for Entourage 2001 (for folks pre OS X) and Entourage 2004 (for OS X and later).

United Streaming Training

Discovery Education supports educators at all levels in their endeavor to improve student achievement and prepare future teachers for challenges in the information age. In this hands-on workshop, learn how to implement United Streaming's digital media in post-secondary programs and coursework as well as for online learning. Obtain personal login information for searching and downloading digitized video clips as well as images for use with your students. Logins for student access can be requested.

Office 2007 Training

As we make the move towards Office 2007, it is important to see some of the differences between the older and newer versions.  This session will have us going into Office 2007 to perform some general (and new) tasks to see how the processes will differ.  We'll also discuss the new file formats.  Over time, this workshop will fade out as all the applications taught will shift to their Office 2007 equivalent.
