Communication, Literacy & Learning

Our summer session runs from Monday, June 18 through Friday, July 27 and will include several camp opportunities (Camp JumpStart , LEGO, and Camp Loud and Clear). 

Camp JumpStart (preliteracy experiences for ages 3 1/2 to 5): June 26 - July 19 T, W, Th mornings

LEGO (targets language skills through games for ages 7 - 12): July 10 - 26, T, W, Th mornings

Camp Loud and Clear (overnight camp for deaf and hard of hearing students): July 13 - 15

 

The LCCLL will also be providing FREE Speech, Language, and Hearing Screenings on May 23, 2012.  During the screenings, we will also have a representative from Usborne Books available so parents, caregivers, and children can shop for colorful and fun titles covering activities, puzzles, and a wide range of subjects for children of all ages.   

 

Speech, Language, Hearing, and Swallowing Services

Speech, language, and swallowing services at the center are provided by Communication Sciences and Disorders graduate students. Students are supervised by Longwood University faculty and clinical supervisors who are nationally certified, Commonwealth of Virginia licensed professionals with many years of experience and expertise. Tutoring Program

 

 

Tutoring in math, reading , English, sciences, social studies, or social skills is available.

Tutoring will be done one-on-one or in a small group setting (2-3 children per tutor) conducted by a Longwood student under faculty supervision.

Mrs. Kim Grey stated, "Jessica has improved her grades thanks to this program."  (Jessica is a high school student who recently received Algebra I tutoring on an individual basis at LCCLL).

 
May 11 is Early Childhood Professionals Day.  Many thanks to the many dedicated professionals who provide services to young children through the work of the Infant Toddler Connection of the Heartland.
