Center for Economic Education

Our Purpose

The Longwood Center for Economic Education, located on the Longwood Campus, exists for the specific purpose of promoting economic education for students, teachers, and the community at large.  The Center is affiliated with and supported by the College of Business & Economics at Longwood University. This allows the Center to teach both needed economic theory and pedagogical techniques to teachers, so they may impart that knowledge to their students. The Longwood Center for Economic Education is a member of the Virginia Council on Economic Education, which in turn belongs to the National Council on Economic Education.

Our staff consists of talented, enthusiastic instructors who work toward making economics fun for students of all ages.  Our workshops offer a "hands on"  approach that helps students understand the way in which economic principles apply to their daily lives. Through the use of valuable curriculum materials, we strive to promote economic Standards of Learning in the classroom.

Major funding  comes from Longwood University and the Virginia Council on Economic Education.  This support allows us to offer our services at the lowest possible cost.

An important note:  All workshops will count toward teacher recertification units.  Teachers will receive credits based on the formulas currently in place in their school divisions.
