LONGWOOD UNIVERSITY ART DEPARTMENT

BUDDING ARTISTS WELCOME

Come Draw in the LCVA’s Gallery

For centuries aspiring artists learned to make art by copying the masters in museums. Observing great works of art and trying to replicate a master artist’s line, form, and texture can be an excellent way to hone one’s own skills. Even today visitors to the National Gallery in Washington can observe Corcoran College of Art and Design students drawing and painting copies of Whistler, Sargent, Cassatt, and many other renowned artists. However, budding artists in South Central Virginia don’t have to travel all the way to Washington.
The LCVA now offers drawing materials including pencils, paper, and erasers so that students can draw from masterpieces on exhibition. Materials can be checked out at the reception desk at no charge during normal gallery hours. Everyone is welcome to participate.
