Changing the Tide!

Join the Student Educators for Active Leadership at the 2014 Fall Leadership Conference at Smith Mountain Lake. The programs and activities will help students use leadership to discern their passion in life, develop a vision, and direction for their futures.  Enjoy a weekend away from it all at beautiful Smith Mountain Lake and prepare to take part in several interactive sessions with our 2014 keynote speaker, Tracy Knofla!


Apply to Present

All Longwood faculty, staff, and students are invited to collaborate on proposals and present workshops at the conference. Please note that for facilitators whose programs are selected to be presented at Smith Mountain Lake, the registration fees for the conference will be waived.

2014 Workshop Proposals submissions now being accepted though Friday, October 24th. 


Registration Begins on Tuesday, September 30th!

Registration includes accommodations, meals and snacks, transportation, t-shirts, and workshop materials.  

Registration will now be offered online. Early bird registration is Tuesday, September 30th through Friday, October 17th. Regular registration is Saturday, October 18th through Friday, November 7th.

Registration Fee Assistance for Mountain Lake Leadership Conference

We are pleased to award a limited amount of registration fee assistance to students who demonstrate financial need. This assistance is intended to reduce the financial barriers to participating in Mountain Lake Leadership Conference. 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a Mountain Lake Leadership Conference fee assistance, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a registered, undergraduate, degree-seeking student at Longwood University
  • Demonstrate financial need (as determined by FASFA and checked via the University's Financial Aid Office)

Each participant will be expected to:

  • Possess a sincere interest in leadership development as well as campus and community engagement
  • Actively participate in the entire leadership conference 
  • Follow up through reflection assignments and acknowledgement to sponsors (as requested)
