Pack your bags!  You're going on an adventure!  NSLP gives you a chance to get away from campus and spend time with students, faculty, and staff.  During NSLP students will spend time exploring what it means to be a Longwood Lancer, while gaining valuable leadership experience.

Mountain Lake Leadership Conference:
Going Above to Achieve Beyond:  Maximizing Your Potential in College & Beyond
November 10-12, 2006

This Friday evening to Sunday morning excursion takes students to the lovely mountains of Pembroke, Virginia and the breath-taking Mountain Lake Resort, where portions of Dirty Dancing were filmed.  During the course of this program guest facilitators, students, faculty, and staff present upwards of 15 topical programs designed to enhance students' leadership. 

Conference Learning Outcomes:

As a result of attending Mountain Lake Leadership Conference, new leaders will:

  • Understand their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Develop communication skills that will equip them to develop relationship with new people.

As a result of attending Mountain Lake Leadership Conference, established leaders will:

  • Understand how to utilize and translate the skills they developed at Longwood in their professional lives.
  • Develop realistic goals based on their potential

 Do you want to Serve Those Who Serve our nation each and every day?  Are you looking for community service hours for your club or organization? Come join the Longwood and Farmville communities in making care packages, create get well cards to send to the troops, listen to veteran Sergeant Larry Provost talk about his experience in the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.

Mountain Lake Leadership Conference 2005

Mountain Lake Leadership Summit:  PEAK Into Your Future                      November 11-13, 2005

Keynote Speaker:  Tracy Knofla, Co-owner and facilitator for High Impact Training

Tracy holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies from Southern Connecticut State University.  She spent 11 years working in student life at Indiana University Southeast and was the Director of Therapeutic Recreation at several long-term care facilities in Connecticut before founding High Impact Training.

Head to the Mountains!  The Mountain Lake Leadership Conference is an opportunity for students to come together regardless of organization affiliation or leadership experience.  As a Longwood University tradition, the Conference is held annually to help expand student knowledge on leadership theory and offer practical experiences through guest speakers, discussions, workshops, and experimental activities.

2005 Learning Outcomes:

  • Make connections and develop relationships with students, faculty, and staff of Longwood .
  • Discover your leadership skills and identify how best to apply those skills in the Longwood and Farmville communities.
  • Develop skills and strategies to work with others- including times of conflict and change.

This program is partially funded by a generous gift from Barnes & Noble.

Rebuilding the Hero:  Blending Feminine and Masculine Strengths

The EXPERIENTIAL event will allow women and men to explore their strengths through a variety of interactive tasks and consider how blending the strengths of both genders leads to the development of a "whole" leader or hero.
