The Greenwood Library collections offer information and ideas to support classroom instruction and provide recreational enjoyment for the Longwood community. The Library has 332,000 volumes, including approximately 250,000 books to check out, as well as 11,000 electronic books. There are over 19,000 audiovisual items, including 4,800 DVDs and 3,600 CDs. The Library subscribes to 1,600 journals and magazines and over 150 databases, with access to over 25,000 full-text electronic journals.

The stacks in this area are closed. Materials from this collection may not be checked out. During regular library hours, a staff member at the Circulation/Reserve desk will retrieve books requested by the researcher for use in the Library. The Greenwood Library collects materials that document the history of the University including minutes of meetings, yearbooks, catalogs, newsletters and brochures of events and activities taking place on campus and student publications, special reports generated by committees and departments and any type of miscellaneous material that relates to the University, its students and its faculty.
The room that houses the archival collection is closed to the public. Patrons needing materials from the archival collection must contact Lydia Williams at 395-2432 to schedule a time to discuss what the researcher needs.
The Juvenile Collection supports courses in both children's literature and education. It includes juvenile fiction, juvenile non-fiction, and a few children's magazines. Young adult literature may be found either in the Juvenile Collection or the General Collection, depending upon reading level, vocabulary, and subject matter. The Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, and Jefferson Cup winners and honor books, are routinely purchased.
This collection behind the Circulation/Reserve desk includes Longwood University salary and budget information as well as selected materials that are in high demand.
Greenwood Library's Special Collections Room houses works by Virginia Authors – authors born in Virginia, authors who live in Virginia and authors who have lived in Virginia at the time of writing. This collection is continually enriched through donations of autographed copies of authors' works, which is what makes this collection special. The Library attempts to obtain two copies of each book, one circulating copy and one autographed copy for the Special Collections Room. Use of these materials is based on special guidelines and procedures. The collected works of Virginia Authors are available for personal reading and research purposes of faculty, students and the Greenwood Library users.
The Library participates in the Virginia Department of Education textbook depository program. Textbook publishers submit one copy of all items considered for adoption by public schools directly to the Library, Subject matters vary by year. These are available for examination and review by the community in the Children's Literature Room designated "Textbook Depository." This collection has limited circulation.
The Library collects materials which relate to Prince Edward County and the town of Farmville, to the surrounding Southside Virginia area, and to Virginia as a whole. For local materials our aim is comprehensive coverage, with a non-circulating copy in Special Collections and a circulating copy housed in the General Collection or on Permanent Reserve, depending upon the condition and availability/replaceability of the individual item.
