Welcome to the Janet D. Greenwood Library – the place on campus to contemplate, create, connect and collaborate. My colleagues and I are here to meet the learning and teaching needs of Longwood students, faculty and staff. The Library holds nearly 300,000 books as well as more than 1,000 periodical titles, 6,000 curriculum based films on VHS, 6,500 recreational films on DVD, and 5,000 audio CDs. We also provide access to a large collection of online indexes, full-text newspapers and journal articles, e-books, and streaming videos. These online collections and resources are available from any computer on campus and, with your Lancer ID and password, from anyplace with an Internet connection.
In our 66,000 square foot building, we offer a variety of spaces for quiet individual study, group discussion, or simply places to meet and talk. Our Learning Commons on the first floor has 82 computer workstations, including 10 iMacs. The Multimedia Lab includes 14 additional Macs; on the second floor, you can find the Student Computer Center with 20 PCs. And we invite you to make use of the white boards throughout the Library.
Our librarians have developed an active instruction program to help students discover, evaluate, and use information resources. They can help with general orientation, basic research skills, and course-specific instruction. And they are also available to help you at the Learning Commons Desk almost all the hours we are open, or by appointment for more in-depth help.
And don't forget some other things in our building to help you: The Learning Center provides tutoring, academic counseling, and a writing center; and Java City is just on the other side of our doors when you need a pick me up.
I encourage you to visit the Library in person and use our website to discover our online resources and services. “Chat” online with one of the librarians. “Like us” on Facebook. Read our blog. Follow us on Twitter.
If you have any comments or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me directly. This is your Library – tell us how we can best meet your needs.
