Virtual Reference Services Policy

Virtual reference services are conducted on the internet using software such as instant messaging. For more information about the Greenwood Library's virtual reference services, see the Ask a Librarian page.

Eligibility

Priority is given to Longwood students, faculty, and staff for research questions.

Confidentiality

The library does not keep a log of completed reference transactions in any format – instant messaging, email, telephone, or face to face.

Use of Licensed Resources

Only authorized users (Longwood students, faculty, and staff) may be given access to material from databases with restrictive licenses.

Delivery of Material to Patrons

The library provides delivery of material to distance education patrons only, through our Document Delivery Service.

Scope of Service

The reference staff answers questions pertaining to research strategy and location of materials and services within the library.  The reference staff may not:

In order to make the virtual reference transaction satisfying for all parties concerned, patrons should observe the following guidelines:

The virtual reference staff reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who fails to observe these guidelines.
