Beginning in May 2005, all users will need to log in when using the Library's computers.
In order to ensure that computers intended for student use are available for that purpose, a username and password are required to access public computers in the Library. The login feature provides a more secure, safe and reliable computing environment that is difficult for hackers to compromise.
What if I don't know my network username and password?
If you have forgotten your LancerNet password, contact User Support Services at 434-395-4357 or go to the User Support Services Office in Coyner Building between 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
Do I need to log-off the computer?
Yes, we recommend that you log-off by “shutting” the computer down. If you don’t, your open data files may be available for others to view.
The computer just timed itself out! Now what?
If you log into a Library computer and do not actively use it (e.g., clicking, scrolling, and typing) for 5 minutes, the computer will log you out automatically. However, you will NOT lose your data. Simply login again and you will see your open data files.
Is this a permanent change?
Yes. The Library will continue to provide a more secure, safe and reliable computing environment that is difficult to compromise.
