Selected items from the Greenwood Library's Special Collections are located on the main floor of the Library in the reserve area behind the Circulation/Reserve desk. The following collections are included:
- A fragile book collection
- College/university yearbooks
- College/university catalogs
- Books related to local history
The stacks in this area are closed, and materials from this collection may not be checked out. Items in this collection have a location of "Selected Coll./Reserves" in the library catalog. During regular library hours, a staff member at the Circulation/Reserve desk will retrieve books requested by the researcher for use in the Library, in accordance with the following policy and procedures:
- All researchers must go to the Circulation/Reserve desk and complete a Selected Collections Materials Request Form.
- Researchers who are currently affiliated with Longwood University or who have established borrowing privileges with the Greenwood Library must leave their University ID card with the staff member at the desk while using these materials.
- Researchers who are not affiliated with the University must leave their driver’s license with the staff member at the desk while using these materials.
- IDs and driver’s licenses will be retained at the Circulation/Reserve desk and returned when the items have been returned to the Circulation/Reserve desk.
- Researchers must work at one of the tables located at the front of the Reference Room. Materials from Selected Collections may not be checked out.
- Researchers may not have food or drink at the table while using materials from Selected Collections.
- A staff member will assist with the photocopying of pages from fragile items.
- When items are returned, the staff member will complete the "Date/Time Item Returned" on the Selected Collection Materials Request Form, return the ID or driver's license to the researcher, and file the form.
