Troubleshooting access errors
- Do not use proprietary browsers that come with providers such as AOL, Compuserve, Walmart Connect, etc. AOL users who use the AOL browser may receive a "566 Response HTTP Version Unsupported" error. Use Internet Explorer instead.
- The latest version of Internet Explorer works best. If you do not know what version you are using, open Internet Explorer and choose "Help | About Internet Explorer" from the menu. Version 6 and above is preferable. If you are using anything below version 5, you should upgrade.
- You must have cookies enabled in order for the proxy server to work. From the Internet Explorer menu, choose "Tools | Internet Option" and then click the "Privacy" tab. Your setting should be Medium or Low. Also, click the "Edit" button for "Web Sites" and add "longwood.edu" (no quotes) to "Allow" so that cookies from the Longwood proxy server will always be accepted.
- Disable Internet Explorer's Content Advisor. To disable it, from the menu choose "Tools | Internet Options" and then click the "Content" tab. If the button says "Disable" you need to click it to disable the advisor.
- Turn off accelerator software used with dial-up connections. Users with accelerator software running may receive a "400 Bad Request. The HTTP request that was submitted is invalid or malformed. The hostname in the URI does not match the Host header" error.
- If you call User Support Services or the Library Information Desk for help, please indicate the date and time of the problem, what you were trying to access, the error you received and at what point in the process, the browser and version that you were using, and the connection speed and internet provider you were using.
