Photocopies of journal articles, book chapters, anthology selections and the like may be submitted in accordance with copyright compliance. Instructor-produced materials (e.g., practice exams, lecture notes, PowerPoint lectures, practice exercises, etc.) may be submitted in paper or as a Word or PowerPoint file. If you already have the material in PDF format, you may submit the PDF file.
Copyright compliance is the responsibility of the instructor and must be shown by signature on the Reserves Request Form. If a journal article is available online in a database that allows direct linking, we will link directly to the online content.
All paper materials must meet the following criteria:
Color is allowed for both paper and Word/PowerPoint files but should be avoided if not critical to the assignment because it will greatly increase the file size and download time.
Every effort will be made to keep the file size reasonable. An item that exceeds 1 MB may be split into multiple files.
Complete the Course Reserves Request Form. Note the following:
Bring the completed forms and materials to the Circulation/Reserve Desk in the Library.
Requests are processed in the order in which they are received. Items will be available online in 5 business days. When your material(s) are available, you will receive e-mail confirmation with your course password and the URL for the course.
The Reserves search tab in the library catalog allows students to search for your materials by your last name or by the course number (e.g., BIOL 101). When a student clicks an e-reserve item link, the course password must be provided before Adobe Acrobat Reader will launch and display the item. Students should be advised to use the Internet Explorer browser, have the most recent version (6) of Adobe Acrobat Reader, and use the Acrobat print icon rather than the browser print function. Large files may take several minutes to display, especially over a dial-up connection. The Library web site has instructions for how to access electronic reserves in Course Reserves for Students.
You can provide a direct link to your course reserves on Blackboard. When your materials are available as e-reserves, you will receive an e-mail containing your course password and the course specific URL.
For questions regarding the status of your e-reserves items, contact the Circulation/Reserve Desk at 395.2433 or e-mail reserves@longwood.edu.
