Acquisitions will
"flag" books
that fit into the category of
New Books. Some new
books fit into the category of "Recreational"
and those will be interfiled with the Recreational Reading titles and be
marked with a green dot.
The cataloger creates
the item record with a location code of "manew" (the location will read "New
Book Shelves" in ReadPAC) and a pop-up (m)
message of: When checked-in, change item location to 'mains'
and delete this message. There will be
no special "markings" for these books (e.g. blue dots).
When the Circulation
staff receives these books after physical processing, they will remove the
"new book" flags and return them to Acquisitions. The New Books shelf is at
the beginning of the Recreational Reading area facing
the Reference Room.
When checking these books out, disregard
the pop-up message. When checking these books in, please follow the pop-up
message.
New Books will stay on the atrium shelves
for 4 weeks. A member of
the Circulation
staff will run a weekly review list for items with location code 'manew' and 'item
created dates'
for the 7 day period that occurred 4 weeks prior to running the list.
Circulation staff
will remove the books on this list that
are still on the New
Book
shelves, globally update those records by changing the location to
'mains' and deleting the pop-up message. Those books will then be shelved in
the general collection. Titles
on the review list that are in circulation will be reshelved in the general
collection upon check-in.
