Longwood Moves Up In National Rankings

Longwood has moved up from number nine to number seven among top regional public schools in the South in the year 2000 edition of U.S.News & World Report's exclusive rankings of "America's Best Colleges." U.S.News bases it rankings on academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, financial resources and alumni giving. The regional category encompasses institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate and master's programs but few, if any, doctoral programs. Among all southern regional colleges and universities, public and private, Longwood was ranked 23rd, placing it in the 'top tier.' The South region includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
