Lucrative Halftime Contests Featured at Longwood Athletic Events

During 2000-01, lucky contestants can win prizes ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 in halftime contests at specified home athletic events.

"These special lucrative contests are made possible by an NCAA CHOICES grant and commercial sponsors," explained Don Lemish, Longwood College Director of Athletics. "The NCAA CHOICES grant helps us emphasize alcohol awareness with the entire campus community."

The "Dizzy Shot" CHOICES contest will take place at halftime of home games for field hockey, soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. This contest will feature a contestant spinning around a baseball bat 10 times before attempting a shot all within 25 seconds for a prize of $1,000. In field hockey, the shot will be attempted from 25 yards out; in soccer, the shot is attempted from 27 yards out toward a six-foot goal; in basketball, the shot will be a three-point attempt; and in lacrosse, the shot will be attempted from 25 yards out.

All home basketball games will
also feature a "Pick Your Spot Shot Contest" worth $4,000 for a pair of made shots.

Longwood Announces New Basketball Ticket Admission Policy

Longwood College Director of Athletics Don Lemish has announced that a ticket/admission policy has been re-instituted for all basketball games at the College beginning this season. Single session adult general public tickets (men's and women's doubleheaders count as a single session) will be $5; single session school-age general public tickets will be $3; adult general public season pass will be $45; school-age general public season pass will be $25.

"Our athletics strategic plan calls for Longwood College to move up to NCAA Division I over the next few years," explained Lemish. "This new ticket policy is designed to begin generating gate revenue for the athletic department revenue which will be needed to support our athletic program as we move to the next level since no state funds can be used to support intercollegiate athletics."

Season passes can be purchased at the office of the athletic business manager, Lancer Hall 126, or phone 804.395.2429. Single session tickets will be available at the Pine Street entrance to Lancer Hall one-hour prior to game tip-off.
