Recent Alumni Events A Hit

Orioles Game Over 300 alumni and guests attended the Baltimore Orioles/New York Yankees game at Camden Yards on September 30, 2000. Reuniting by coincidence at the game were Emma McDaniel '64, Deborah Brown '79, and Dana Ripley '96. McDaniel taught Brown, who in turn educated Ripley in Charlottesville. President Cormier joined the trio for this photo. The Alumni Association will host two ballgames this summer at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Oktoberfest Approximately 400 alumni and guests returned to Longwood on October 7 for Oktoberfest 2000. Events during the day included an alumni breakfast, Biergarten, Chi's 100th anniversary celebration, live bands, kids' games, pony rides, and more. A plethora of students competed in the annual paint battle between the Green/Whites and the Red/Whites. The contest held on Friday, October 6, on Wheeler Mall was won by the Green and White team which traditionally is composed of students graduating in an odd numbered year. Oktoberfest 2001 will be Saturday, October 6. The alumni web site will have a full schedule of events posted in August (www.longwood.edu, click on alumni). |
Gold Cup Races The Alumni Association sponsored a tent at the International Gold Cup Races in Northern Virginia on October 21, 2000. Over 50 alumni and guests attended the festivities. The Association will sponsor tents this year at the Foxfield Races in Charlottesville on April 28 and the International Gold Cup Races in Northern Virginia on October 20. Alums Talk Careers with Students The Career Center,
with the assistance of the Alumni Association, sponsored a Career
Emphasis Series on campus October 23 through October 26, 2000. Over
30 Longwood alumni returned to Farmville to speak with students
on a variety of career subjects. Jennifer Guill Steele '95,
