Diversity Thoughts

Dr. Patricia Cormier, President of Longwood University, shares her vision of Diversity.

As a public institution in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Longwood University has long been dedicated to advancing the democratic and egalitarian ideals that lie at the heart of our country and society.

Our Mission commits us to nothing less than the creation and maintenance of an educational environment that revolves around the free exchange of ideas and opinions and a profound respect for difference, diversity and civic responsibility. We strive to foster in our students the leadership characteristics and sense of civic duty that will make them what we refer to as "Citizen Leaders dedicated to the common good of society."

At Longwood, we prepare students not only to secure the jobs of their choice, but also to meet and appreciate the challenges, opportunities and joys of living in a wonderful, diverse and pluralistic society. We believe that the citizens of the Commonwealth and the nation deserve nothing less.
