Leadership Opportunities

The Peer Mentoring Program: A student-initiated and administered program matching first-year students with upper class students. The purpose of the Mentoring program is to assist new students in adjusting to Longwood University. Peer Mentors assist new students by orienting them to the University, to student organizations, and to campus resources. Peer Mentors are assigned to one or more first year students in order to accomplish these goals.                                                                                                                                  

Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC): Longwood students assist the Director of Multicultural Affairs and other administrative units in developing and implementing programs and policies which facilitate the transition of the campus community to a multicultural learning environment. This group is composed of students who represent various cultural perspectives within the campus community. Committee members serve as a critical resource of trained students with regard to issues of diversity.

Black Student Association (BSA): provides numerous activities to encourage dialogue and social interaction within the minority committee.

Brothers and Sisters In Christ Gospel Choir (BASIC): is an organization that ministers to others through the songs of Jesus Christ.

International Studies House: provides a living environment where residents can increase cultural awareness in a close-knit social setting. ISH strives to promote awareness of different cultures and campus diversity in a residential living setting.

The Jewish Student Organization (JSO): is committed to assisting and encouraging the University and the community to expand their knowledge and understanding of Jewish culture and beliefs.

Muslim Students Association: The goal of MSA is to spread awareness of true meaning of Islam, while at the same time combating the numerous stereotypes and misconceptions of the Muslim region.  All are welcome to each and every function sponsored by the Muslim Student Association of Longwood University.

Student Organization of Disability Awareness (SODA): tries to inform other about various disabilities through educational programming.

Unity Alliance: an organization to help gay, lesbian, and bisexual students become more a integral part of the Longwood community; to educate students, faculty, and staff on issues pertaining to sexual orientation; and to examine issues of discrimination based on sexual orientation.

International Students Advisory Club: exists to help foreign students become acclimated to Longwood University and the community while providing programs to educate the rest of the campus regarding other cultures and languages. They are on the web at http://lancer.longwood.edu/org/isac
