    Longwood is pleased to announce a study-abroad program on the Caribbean Island of Martinique. Student participants spend four weeks on Martinique and receive up to six credits upon successful completion of the course. In addition, these credits may be applied as elective units for both a foreign language major and a French minor.  Fort-de-France, the capital of Martinique, is located on the western side of the island. The Caribbean Sea borders the western side of the island, while the Atlantic Ocean lies to the east. The southern part of the island is covered with white sand  beaches; the north is known for its beautiful  tropical plants and flowers. The climate is  warm year-round. The island is also known for its history and folklore. Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1495, it has been a French department since 1946.

Who is eligible?

    Students who have successfully completed two semesters of French are eligible for the program, which offers a course in intensive French language and Creole culture.

Housing

    Students are housed with families.
