Longwood, in affiliation with the New England Study Abroad Program, is pleased to announce its Study Abroad Program in the city of Salzburg, Austria. Participants spend either a full year or a single semester at the University of Salzburg, and receive up to sixteen credits per semester (German 311, 312) toward graduation. In addition, these credits may be applied as elective units for both a foreign language major and a German minor.
Located in the foothills of the Alpine region of western Austria, Salzburg is one of the foremost cultural centers of Europe. Birthplace of Mozart, and site of the renowned Salzburg Festival, the city has a long history as one of the premier music capitals of Europe. The whole of the old city has been preserved and represents a work of art in its own right. Thermal springs which feed the spa resorts of Badgastein and Bad Hofgastein in the Gastein Valley enjoy an international reputation. With its imposing architectural tradition and magnificent Alpine scenery, Salzburg affords students a unique educational experience.
Who is eligible?
Matriculated students at Longwood are eligible to
study for a year, a semester, or during the six-week summer session.
The program also accommodates first-and second-year students who have a
minimum of German. Under the guidance of the
Resident Director, students select lectures, tutorials, and seminars
equivalent to a full course load at Longwood.
Housing
Like their Austrian counterparts, program participants
are housed in private homes in or near Salzburg, or in University dormitories.
With the help of the Resident Director, students normally find suitable
accommodations within a week after their arrival
Travel
As part of the program, students take excursions
to the Old City, Salzburg, tours of Schloss Helibrunn and Hallein Salt
Mines, the Volksoper in Vienna, and other cultural sites.
Business Administiration
OPPORTUNITY
Students in the Salzburg Program are being offered the option of taking classes at the School of Business Administration at the University of Linz. Except in special cases this is recommended for full year students during their second semester. Because Linz is only a short train ride from Salzburg, the Universitat Salzburg will remain the student's home base.
