Summer Institute for Spanish
Teachers
(Graduate credit)
Longwood, in affiliation with the Institute of Spanish Studies in Valencia, Spain, is pleased to announce its study-abroad program in the historic city of Valencia, Spain. The program offers courses in Spanish conversation, composition, grammar, translation, literature, history, and culture and civilization. A detailed course list and informational brochure is available on request. Graduate courses are also available.
Located on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, Valencia enjoys some of the most extensive beaches in the country, and a mild climate makes them an attractive option nearly year-round. Nestled between two branches of the River Turia, the city is surrounded by fertile orchard lands. Byzantine, Arab and later Spanish influences are evident in the numerous significant architectural sites of this 2000-year old city, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, begun in 1262, and the famous Serranos Towers, former entrance gates to the city.
Who is eligible?
At least two years of college Spanish is required for admittance to the semester program. One year of college Spanish or the equivalent is required for the summer sessions. A minimum grade-point average of 2.5 or better is a prerequisite.
Housing
Students are housed in private
homes with Spanish families. Three meals per day are provided.
