Deberes durante el semestre de Primavera para los participantes en el programa "La España de las Tres Culturas"
March 6 HOMEWORK (Deberes):
a. Choose 2 places outside of Valencia you want to visit, from among the sites listed in our itinerary, or others, and explain why they attract you, what is there about these sites that you want to learn more about or see and why, and give us some info you have found about them. See the website for ideas: http://www.longwood.edu/modernlanguages/cid.htm En español. Una página. A máquina (typed). (Even tho you might now be in a Span 102 or 105 class, use your BEST español, and proof-read it several times for accuracy. Try not to look up more than about 8 words to write this, and use the grammar and vocab. that you already know. So keep it simple, and do NOT write it in English first and then translate. That’s very important. We will use these in class to discuss where you want to go, and maybe even change our itinerary to be able to visit places we may not have put on the itinerary. So there is a point behind all of this. Don’t come without this homework for 3 reasons: it counts in your class grade, and you won’t be able to participate in the group discussions we are going to have using the homework, and you won’t have any input into what we do in Spain.)
b. Think about and plan strategies for the following 4 scenarios that could happen to you in Valencia; the purpose is to prepare you for all possibilities so that you have a plan and can get the most out of all of your experiences. Write a paragraph in English explaining what you will do in these situations:
1. What if I get lost in Valencia while going home from the Institute?
2. What if I can’t understand what someone is telling me, like my host-mom
or the bus driver?
3. What if I can’t say what I want to say, because I don’t know a lot of vocabulary?
4. What if I get sick?
c. Research and find a name in Spanish that you would like to be called during the program. We will not be speaking English for the most part while we are in Spain, so we want to be able to use Spanish when we talk to each other. Bring your name to class and be ready to introduce yourself. (“Me llamo Lily; encantada de conocerte.”)
d. Remember to make sure that you do not have any “hold flags” so that you can be registered for the course. ¡¡Muy importante!!
e. If you have not applied for your passport, do so immediately, or you run the risk of not being able to get on the plane. This is not a joking matter. If you have your passport by the next meeting date, bring 2 copies of the info page to the meeting (if you have not already turned yours in). Gracias.
Our next meetings after March 6 will be: April 10 and April 24 (we have added the April 24 meeting because we have too much to go over in only 2 more meetings—please put this on your calendar!) ¡Gracias!
