KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Richard Holbrooke

This conference will open with keynote speaker Richard Holbrooke at Longwood University.

Mr. Holbrooke served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations during the Clinton Administration. He also served as the Assistant Secretary of State for Europe from 1994-1996. In 1995, he was the chief architect of the Dayton peace accord that helped end the war in Bosnia.
This event is free and open to the public.
In addition, there will be numerous important scholars and public officials making presentations at this conference.
FRIDAY LUNCHEON
Lee Hamilton, a member of Congress from Indiana for more than thirty years, will give the Friday luncheon presentation at Longwood University. In addition to many other accomplishments, Mr. Hamilton recently served on the federal commission that presented the 9/11 Report dealing with international terrorism. He currently serves as the Director of the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars.
SATURDAY LUNCHEON
Dr. John Agresto will give the final luncheon presentation on Saturday at Hampden-Sydney College. Dr. Agresto was a member of the Coalition Provisional Government in Iraq and assisted in the drafting of the new constitution.
OTHER PRESENTERS
Thomas Boyatt will be speaking about US foreign policy. Mr. Boyatt served with the State Department for many years and received the Meritorious Honor Award in 1969 for his role in helping to secure the release of hostages being held by Palestinian guerillas. He currently serves as the CEO of the Foreign Affairs Council.
Ambassador Jack Matlock will speak about Russian democracy in the 21st century. Mr. Matlock was America's ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1987 to 1991.
Ambassador Randolph Bell, World Affairs Council of Richmdond, will speak about the limits of US foreign policy.
General Paul Mikolashek (Raytheon) will talk about rebuilding Afghanistan.
Ambassador Martin Butora (Institute for Public Affairs, Slovakia) will discuss civil society in Central Europe.
Dr. Lee Tlou from the Institute for Democratic Governance will talk about democracy promotion in Africa.
Dr. Charles Sydnor, former president of Emory and Henry, will speak about public education and international curriculum.
