Call for Proposals - Deadline: September 30, 2006
Submit your Proposal (please complete form below)
We invite political scientists, historians, economists, geographers, and practitioners to submit original research papers focusing on the theme of sustaining democracy in the global age.
Proposals should fit into one of the following categories: challenges to democracy in post-industrial societies (e.g., Western Europe, the United States, Japan, etc.); challenges to democracy in developing countries and transitional democracies (e.g., the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, etc.); globalization’s impact on democracy; and global and national security.
Papers can focus on a single country, incorporate a regional perspective, or adopt a global approach. Furthermore, we welcome research that explores thematic and transnational issues like interest groups, social movements, political parties, citizenship, leadership, culture, economics, state institutions, domestic policy, international affairs, ethnicity, gender, and transnational actors.
You can also propose and organize a panel for this conference. If this option is selected, discuss the subjects and paper topics that would be included and the names and affiliations of persons whom you would invite. This information needs to be submitted on our website.
Only one abstract per person is permitted, and the deadline for submissions is September 30, 2006. All proposals must be submitted via the form below.
Authors need to send a copy of the completed work to the panel chair by December 22, 2006.
At the conclusion of this conference, some of the papers will be published in a series entitled, The Jamestown Papers on the Future of Democracy.
