13 November 2006 Longwood Women’s basketball team bus The charter bus for the Longwood University women’s basketball program was involved in a minor traffic accident Sunday night while returning the team to Farmville following the program’s 66-59 season-opening victory at American University earlier Sunday in Washington, D.C. “There were no serious injuries, though three members of the team were taken to MCV Hospital in Richmond. The student-athletes were treated and released before returning safely to campus by 3 a.m., Monday morning,” stated Longwood University interim Director of Athletics Troy Austin. “The remaining members of the travel party were safely back on campus by 12:30 a.m., Monday.” The accident took place on US 360 West near Amelia when the charter bus collided with a trailer connected to a dump truck that was waiting to turn onto US 360 East at approximately 8:15 p.m. The bus had swerved to avoid a van that had slowed in front of it to avoid the dump truck/trailer as well. |
