Title IX and gender equity expert to speak at Longwood

Dr. Linda CarpenterDr. Linda Carpenter, an expert on Title IX and gender equity issues in sport, will speak Monday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Longwood University's Orr Auditorium (Hull 132) on Legal Issues in the Workplace.

In addition to that talk, which is a Simkins Lecture, Dr. Carpenter will speak at 3 p.m. that day in Bedford 103 on Title IX: History and Implications for Women and Men. That talk is part of the Wednesdays with Women's Studies Program. Both programs are offered in conjunction with Women's History Month.

Dr. Carpenter, professor emerita at Brooklyn College, is an attorney who is the author or co-author of nine books, most recently Title IX. She has published nearly 40 articles; presented at about 120 national, regional and local conferences; and received approximately 40 grants.

"Her longitudinal research work with Dr. Vivian Acosta is the 'benchmark' for women's athletic research studies," said Barbara Dearing, Longwood's associate athletic director and senior woman administrator.
